My husband makes the best chili.
Let me explain why,
it is never the same, and this is one of my favorite things
about chili. When Chris makes it, of course we use ground beef,
tomatoes as a base, and stock, but we or he rather (this is his baby) adds
anything and everything to it. It is a great time to use up whatever
produce is laying around the house, onions, shallots, celery, carrots, lemons, whatever.
This past time, he actually added tomato sauce from when we had sketti, and
oh my goodness this chili was so amazing! We also had a ton
of unused jalapenos from the farmers market,
they added just the right amount of heat.
With fall here, and winter around the corner,
in New Jersey at least, it is getting colder everyday,
and during the cold days, I just love warm and comforting food,
a little too much actually. But really, that is when it tastes the best.
I can still remember my mother making chili and cinnamon rolls as a child.
Yes you heard me.
Chili and cinnamon rolls.
Though most of my life was spent growing up in Louisiana from age 7 up,
my mom is from the Midwest, and this is a Midwest classic combination,
so much so, I remember at lunch time in elementary school chili and cinnamon rolls
were always served together.
It sounds really bizarre right?
Well think about it, it is the sweet and salty combination flavors. Or spicy and sweet.
I haven't had them together in a very long time, and I kind of want to try it
again to see if I'd still love it, as much as I remember loving it as a child.
Who knows? Maybe if I tried it, i'd be totally grossed out,
you never know though.
